How to Install
Dial-Up Networking for
Windows 95 & 98
A. Check to
see that Dial-Up Networking is installed
- 1. Double-Click on My Computer.
- 2. Look for the Dial up Networking folder.
- 3. If it is not there, go to step B.
- 4. If it is installed, then go to step C.
B. If Dial Up Networking is not installed
- 1. Click on Start.
- 2. Click on Settings.
- 3. Double-Click on Control
Panel.
- 4. Click on Add/Remove Programs.
5. Click on the Windows Setup tab.
- 6. Double-Click on Communications.
7. Click in the box next to Dial-Up Networking.
- 8. Click on OK.
- 9. Click on Apply.
- 10. Windows will need your Windows 95 CD-ROM
or floppy disks.
11. If asked for a Work Group, enter crosswind.net
12. If asked for a computer name, enter your username.
- 11. After the drivers are installed, it will ask you to
restart the computer. Click on Yes.

Checking your Network Connections
- 1. Click on Start.
- 2. Click on Settings.
- 3. Double-Click on Control Panel.
- 4. Double-Click on Network.
- 5. Under Configuration, look for the Dial-Up Adapter.
- 6. If it is not there, go to D.
- 7, If it is there, go to E.

Installing the Dial-up Adapter
- 1. In the Network window, Click on Add.
- 2. Double-Click on Adapter.
3. Scroll down and Click on Microsoft.
4. Click on Dial-Up Adapter.
- 5. Click on Add again if necessary.
- 6. Click on Protocol.
7. Scroll down and Click on Microsoft.
- 8. Click on TCP/IP.
- 9. Click Ok.
- 10. Windows will ask you for your Windows 95 CD or floppy
disks.
- 11. Windows will then restart.
- 12. Go to F.
E. If
The Dial-Up Adapter is there
- 1. Scroll down and make sure the TCP/IP protocol is
installed.
- 2. If it is not there:
- a. Click on Add
- b. Double-Click on Protocol
- c. Scroll down and Click on Microsoft
- d. Click on TCP/IP.
- e. Click on OK.
- f. Windows will ask you for your Windows CD or floppy
disks.
- g. Windows will restart your computer.

Adding a Connection
- 1. Double-Click on My Computer.
- 2. Double-Click on the Dial-Up Networking folder.
- 3. Double-Click on Make New Connection.
- 4. Enter the name: Digital
CROSSWIND.
- 5. Click on Next.
- 6. Enter 806 in the area code box.
- 7. Enter 546-0101 in the phone number
box.
8. Click on next - Click on finish
G. Setting up the Connection
- 1. Double-Click on My computer.
- 2. Double-Click on Dial-Up Networking.
- 3. Right Click on Digital
Crosswind icon.
- 4. Click on Properties.
- 5. Click on the General tab.
- 6. Click on Configure.
- a. Click on General.
- b. Look under Maximum Speed.
- c. Scroll down and select your max baud rate.
- d. Click on Options tab.
- e. Make sure there is NOT a check in Bring Up Terminal
Window After dialing.
- f. Click on OK.
- 7. Click on Server Type tab.
- a. Clear all checkmarks EXCEPT TCP/IP.
- b. Make sure the Server Type is PPP.
- c. Click on TCP/IP Settings button.
- e. Enable Server assigned IP Address
- i. Enable Server assigned Name and Server Addresses
- j. Check "use IP header compression and check use
default gateway on remote network
- j. Click OK.
H.
Connecting.
- 1. Click on My Computer.
- 2. Click on Dial-Up Networking.
- 3. Click on Digital Crosswind
- 5. Enter your username and password in the appropriate
boxes.
- 6. Click on Connect.
- 7. You are now connected to
Crosswind.
- 8. Run your favorite Web Browser (i.e. Netscape or MS
Internet Explorer)!
